Officials announced today that Purdue will play the ACC's fourth selection in the Champs Sports Bowl at 8 p.m. Dec. 29 in the Florida Citrus Bowl. The game will be televised by ESPN. "We appreciate the opportunity to go the Champs Sports Bowl and play an outstanding team from the ACC," said Coach Joe Tiller in a release. "I am pleased for our players that they get this reward. We have a young team that has worked hard, gotten better over the course of the season and put itself in position to play in this game." Purdue's ACC opponent has yet to be determined, as there are several potential suitors. The four most likely candidates are Wake Forest, Boston College, Maryland and Virginia Tech, each of which sports an identical 5-2 conference mark. Georgia Tech has the best record in the ACC with a 7-1 mark, leading Virginia Tech in the Coastal Division. GT will play either Wake, B.C. or Maryland, who are all tied for the lead in the Atlantic Division, in the ACC title game Dec. 2. The winner is headed to the BCS. Clemson, another possible Boilermaker opponent, is 5-3 in the Atlantic Division, a half game behind Wake, B.C. and Maryland. "Purdue has a chance to be a nine-win team and boasts one of the most exciting offenses in all of college football," Florida Citrus Sports executive director Steve Hogan said in a release. "The Boilermakers have one of the more passionate fan bases and will follow their team to Orlando to see what should be a top bowl matchup against a very good ACC opponent." |
